2015 ITA Summer Circuit Set to Begin on Friday

SKILLMAN, NJ (June 25) - Seven regions will get underway this weekend to kick off the 2015 ITA Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA. The tournaments at Florida State, Laguna Niguel, Mary Washington, Minnesota, UMKC, San Jose State and Pittsburgh set the stage for an action-packed summer of tennis.

In all, 36 events will be played leading up to the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships, which will be hosted once again by Indiana University from August 8-11. Last summer, four different conferences were represented by the winners of the summer crowns.

Sam Monette of Indiana edged out Princeton's Zack McCourt 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 for the men's singles title, while Alabama's Natalia Maynetto won an all-SEC affair against Vanderbilt's Frances Altick 7-5, 0-6, 10-8. Alex Lawson and Billy Pecor of Notre Dame prevailed in a close 8-6 encounter with Charlie Emhardt and Jeffrey Schorsch from Valparaiso in the men's doubles final, and the USC duo of Zoƫ Katz and Madison Westby defeated Dartmouth's Jacqueline Crawford and Taylor Ng 8-2 to claim the women's doubles championship.

Monette played first singles and doubles for the Hoosiers this past season, earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors, while Maynetto maneuvered her way from outside the Tide's top six up to the fourth singles spot by the end of the year.

Lawson and Pecor put together an outstanding 2014-15 campaign, finishing the season 25-9 and earning a year-end ranking of No. 17 in the Oracle/ITA Division I Men's National Collegiate Doubles Rankings. Katz went on to play at the top doubles position for the majority of the season for the Women of Troy, qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championships with Sabrina Santamaria, while Westby earned Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year and ITA Southwest Region Rookie of the Year honors.

The circuit is played through July 28, then players are given over a week to rest before the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships.
