Week 5 Recap: 2014 ITA Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA
SKILLMAN, NJ (July 30) - The 2014 ITA Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA, wrapped up its regular season last weekend with play at eight sites. Next up is the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships, which will take place on August 9-12 and will be hosted by Indiana University.
Highlights from last weekend's action include:
Multiple winners prevail
UCLA sophomore Gage Brymer won his second ITA Summer Circuit title with a 6-2, 6-2 win over IUPUI'sJason Jaruvang at Cal State LA. Brymer, who ended his freshman year at No. 69 in the ITA Division I National Men's Singles Rankings, also won the La Verne singles and doubles events earlier this month.
At the Texas A&M event, 17-year-old Sarai Monarrez won the women's singles title for her second ITA Summer Circuit win with a 7-6(6), 6-3 victory over Aspen Cervin, who will be a sophomore at Saint Louis University this fall. Monarrez also won the women's singles at San Jose State a few weeks ago.
Brooke Austin, an incoming freshman at Florida, also won her second singles title of the summer with a 6-2, 6-2 over Gabriella DeSantis, a sophomore at Ohio State. Austin also captured the singles title at Purdue during the first week of the circuit.
At UNC Greensboro, Furman sophomore Ansley Speaks captured her second singles title with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Taylor Davidson of Stanford. The two then paired up to win the doubles title.
Back to the winner's circle for Ruder-Hook
A week after being edged 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 by USC's Zoe Katz in Azusa Pacific, Mira Ruder-Hook won the singles title at Cal State LA with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Annika Ringblom. Prior to Azusa Pacific, Ruder-Hook won the women's singles title at La Verne.
Two titles are better than one
In Cornell, Matthew Nardella was a double winner, picking up the singles title over Sam Swank 7-6(3), 6-4 and then pairing up with Thomas Spratt to take the doubles title as well.

About the ITA Summer Circuit
Since its inception in 1993, nearly 30,000 men and women have competed in the ITA Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA. Providing college and junior athletes (along with alumni) the opportunity to compete in organized events year round, the Circuit remains open to anyone as long as he/she is a current ITA member. There are nine regional circuits that span across the United States, which include 36 different tournaments.
