North Carolina, Oklahoma Remain Atop ITA National Team Rankings

Stiefelmeyer and Elbaba top the singles charts

SKILLMAN, NJ (March 10) - The North Carolina women and Oklahoma men sit together atop the ITA Division I National Team Rankings for the second consecutive week and the third time this season.

A Top 2 team on the men's side fell victim to the upset bug for the second week in a row, as No. 44 Virginia Tech swept singles to upend No. 2 Duke, 6-1. The win sent the Hokies up to No. 15 and dropped the Blue Devils to No. 6. Top-ranked Oklahoma ended Ohio State's NCAA-record home winning streak (in any sport) at 200 with a narrow 4-3 victory at Varsity Tennis Center. The streak dated back to 2003.

San Diego State, Wichita State and SMU also made significant leaps in the men's rankings. The Aztecs improved 25 slots to No. 35 with three ranked wins last week, including a 4-3 triumph against 22nd-ranked California. The Shockers and Mustangs both rose 20 spots to their current rankings of No. 46 and 47, respectively.

On the women's side, the Tar Heels moved to 15-0 after a pair of shutout wins on Saturday, their eighth and ninth shutouts of the season. Right behind North Carolina are the UCLA Bruins, the last team to beat the Tar Heels back in last season's NCAA Team Championship. The Bruins climbed 10 spots after posting 4-3 wins over No. 3 USC and No. 4 Baylor.

The San Francisco women registered an upset win over No. 38 BYU to rise 33 spots to No. 39, the biggest jump of the week by any team on either side. The Dons are 7-4 overall with an unblemished 5-0 record at home. The Texas A&M Aggies moved back into the rankings at No. 46 after beating the No. 26 South Carolina Gamecocks, 5-2.

The ITA Division I Women's National Singles Rankings are topped once again by Virginia's Julia Elbaba. The junior Cavalier ranks No. 1 for the third time this season and currently sports a 19-3 record. Clemson's Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies lead the women's doubles rankings.

Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer has rattled off 12 straight victories to reclaim the No. 1 spot in the ITA Division I Men's National Singles Rankings. Previous No. 1, Virginia's Thai-Son Kwiatkowski dropped to No. 6, but is one of five ranked Cavaliers. Vanderbilt's Gonzales Austin and Rhys Johnson remain the nation's top men's doubles pairing.

Women's Top 25: SEC - 6; ACC and Pac-12 - 5; Big 12 - 4; Big Ten - 3; Ivy and WCC - 1. 

Double-Dip: This week, 12 schools have both their men's and women's programs ranked inside the Top 25.

Top 25 Caliber: Aforementioned Virginia Tech leads three men's teams new to the Top 25. Minnesota (No. 22) and Florida State (No. 24) also made the cut. On the women's side, Arizona State (No. 24) and Purdue (No. 25) rose into the Top 25.
