Three Sites Host Holiday Weekend ITA Summer Circuit Action

SKILLMAN, NJ (July 8) - The second wave of the 2015 ITA Summer Circuit was underway at three colleges during the nation's 239th birthday celebration. The ITA Summer Circuit, which began with six tournaments in its opening week, returns this upcoming weekend with tournaments in each of the nine regions.


Event action for the three holiday sites is recapped below:


Northeast Region: Pittsburgh

Mitchell Maroscher of Grand Canyon University emerged from the unseeded masses to win the men's singles event, picking up wins over the No. 4, 5, 1 and 2 seeds along the way. John Wu of Washington University-St. Louis was the singles runner-up, and he won the doubles draw with Bucknell's Maxwell Kane as the No. 2 seed. In women's singles, LSU's Ryann Foster won the tournament with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 finals victory over top-seeded Anna Smith. Indiana Hoosier teammates Caitlin Bernard and Stephanie Smith were champions of the doubles draw.


Midwest Region: Purdue

Top-seeded Jeffrey Schorsch of Valparaiso won the men's singles draw without dropping a set, and Schorsch and Valparaiso teammate Charlie Emhardt then won the doubles title with a narrow 8-7 victory in the finals. In women's singles, William & Mary's Lauren Goodman bested Purdue's Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum for the championship, 6-0, 7-6 (6). Bernard-Feigenbaum and Purdue teammate Nicole Robinson exacted home court revenge by winning the doubles crown, at the behest of Goodman and Richmond's Gaby Rosales, final score 8-4.


Texas Region: Abilene Christian

In Texas on the fourth day of July, fourth-seeded Nico Agritelley of host school Abilene Christian began his title march which culminated in a 6-3, 6-2 win over ACU teammate and No. 2 seed, Josh Sheehy, in the final. Sheehy's brother Jonathan won the doubles title with partner Parker Wynn over singles finalists Agritelley and Josh Sheehy. Texas Tech's Lynn Kiro won the women's singles draw, also triumphing over a teammate in the final, when she topped fellow Red Raider Sarah Dvorak 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(2). Megan Poe and Wisconsin's Kelsey Grambeau won the women's doubles title, 9-7 over Alexandra Maciel and St. Mary's Jamie Lee Denton.

About the ITA Summer Circuit

Since its inception in 1993, nearly 30,000 men and women have competed in the ITA Summer Circuit, presented by the USTA. Providing college and junior athletes (along with alumni) the opportunity to compete in organized events year round, the Circuit remains open to anyone as long as he/she is a current ITA member. There are nine regional circuits that span across the United States, which include 36 different tournaments.
